City of North Miami seeks an experienced planning professional to serve as Assistant Director of Community Planning and Development. This senior leader supports the Director in managing daily operations and advancing planning, zoning, sustainability, redevelopment, and business licensing functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, architecture, geography, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible planning or community development experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
• Municipal planning experience and valid Florida driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director in managing daily operations of the Community Planning and Development Department.
• Oversee planning, zoning, sustainability, and business licensing functions per adopted regulations.
• Supervise and mentor professional, technical, and administrative staff.
• Review complex development applications, zoning actions, and redevelopment proposals for compliance.
• Coordinate development review and licensing with other City departments.
• Represent the department at public meetings, hearings, and community events.
• Support updates to the Comprehensive Plan, land development regulations, and related ordinances.
• Assist with budget preparation, performance tracking, and reporting; serve as Acting Director when needed.
