Job summary

Gulfshoresal seeks an experienced Assistant Director to lead the Public Services Department, guiding residential and commercial trash collection, recycling, and BABIC programs. You will mentor division staff, drive budgeting and fleet management, and ensure compliance with regulations.

The role requires strong supervisory skills and strategic planning. Responsibilities include reporting to the Director, developing SOPs, and coordinating with city departments and external agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental science, public administration, or related field required; Master's preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered for candidates without a Bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in solid waste/public works/municipal operations with leadership in administration, budgeting, contracts, and service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee operations of Public Services including residential/commercial trash, recycling, and BABIC programs.
• Develop training for succession planning and professional development.
• Manage budgets, fleet management, and procurement processes.
• Prepare and present management reports and performance metrics to leadership and stakeholders.
• Develop and implement SOPs, work processes, and safety policies.
• Monitor service delivery and implement improvements as needed.
• Lead personnel matters including hiring, evaluation, and discipline.
