Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids seeks a Public Services Specialist to lead crews in recycling, refuse, and yard waste operations. You will plan, organize, and assign tasks, and assist in training new staff.

This role also coordinates enforcement of related ordinances, builds relationships with the Police and HOT teams, and helps troubleshoot process improvements. A safety-sensitive position with DOT considerations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3 years of progressively responsible experience in mid/heavy equipment operation or solid waste management, including lead worker experience.
• CDL A license required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Refuse Collection Operators and Public Services Aides.
• Plan, organize, coordinate and assign tasks within the crew.
• Coordinate training of new employees.
• Enforce recycling, refuse and yard waste ordinances; oversee corridor cleaning.
