Job summary

Beacon Software seeks a strategic Privacy Counsel to build the privacy program across its growing portfolio. You will own policy development, DPA templates, and cross‑jurisdictional compliance from pre‑close diligence through integration.

You will partner with IT, product, and risk teams to embed privacy‑by‑design, manage incident response, and lead privacy governance for US, Canada, and EU data activities. This is a high‑impact, autonomous role.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and bar admission in CA or NY.
• 7+ years of privacy law experience at a top firm or 5–7 years in-house at a tech company.
• Experience building or leading a privacy function with governance and programs.
• Deep expertise in US, Canadian, and EU privacy regimes (CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA/Law 25, GDPR).
• Hands-on advice on diverse data types (personal, sensitive, health, financial).
• Experience due diligence in M&A privacy contexts.
• Pragmatic, business-focused privacy advice with risk-based controls.
• Comfort with AI tools for privacy work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Build and own Beacon’s enterprise data privacy program from inception.
• Lead data privacy due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
• Draft and maintain DPAs, privacy policies, ROPAs, and DSAR procedures.
• Partner with IT, governance, and product teams to embed privacy-by-design.
• Monitor compliance across US, Canada, EU, incl. transfer mechanisms.
• Lead privacy incident response and coordinate with security and leadership.
• Manage vendor privacy risk and DPAs with third parties.
• Provide guidance on AI/privacy implications and responsible data use.
• Design privacy training and foster a culture of accountability.
