Job summary

City of Rohnert Park seeks a proactive Planning Division Manager to lead current and historic planning efforts, manage budgets, and guide professional staff. The role supports the Director of Development Services and interfaces with the City Council, Planning Commission, and DRB.

The ideal candidate will provide complex analyses, develop policies, supervise staff, and ensure high standards of customer service in a demanding municipal environment.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in land-use planning, urban planning, public administration, business administration, or closely related field with four years of administrative and/or project management experience, including two years supervisory.
• Possession of a master's degree is desirable and may substitute one year of professional experience.
• Valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions of the Planning Division including current and historic preservation planning.
• Develops goals, policies, priorities, and staffing levels for the division and administers procedures.
• Develops and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and monitors workload and reporting relationships.
• Manages division budget and oversees contracts and services.
• Provides staff training and performance coaching; handles discipline when needed.
• Advises City Council and commissions; serves as liaison to Planning Commission and DRB; conducts public outreach.
