Gfoat is seeking a qualified candidate for a city planning role under the Director of Development Services. Responsibilities include administering projects, providing advisory support, and implementing planning initiatives. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in planning and five to six years of related experience.
The position also involves effective communication with officials and community members while participating in public meetings and events.
Under general administrative direction of the Director of Development Services, administer specific assigned projects and program implementation. Provide professional counsel and technical advice to the City Manager’s Office, the Director of Development Services, and staff on matters relating to the assigned specific projects or programs. Perform other related work as required.
Bachelor’s degree required in city or regional planning, public administration, or closely related field; Master’s degree preferred. Certification by American Institute of Certified Planners is required.
Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience required, more than five (5) years preferred, in city or regional planning (public or private) or municipal or public agency administration, with a demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and negotiate with elected and appointed officials, staff, consultants, developers, and the general public.
Skill required in project management, with a demonstrated ability to effectively understand, coordinate and process amendments to long‑range planning policies and zoning and development related ordinances, as well as a demonstrated ability to implement recommended action items.
Skill preferred in processing zoning and development case management, with demonstrated ability to resolve conflicting ordinance requirements.
Skill preferred in reviewing development plans, including but not limited to site plan, landscape plans, building elevations, and plats, with demonstrated ability to resolve conflicting ordinance requirements.
Skill required in public speaking, presentations and report writing.
Knowledge of the concepts of New Urbanism preferred.
Proficiency required in computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications. Experience in ArcGIS, Photoshop, and/or Adobe Creative Suites applications beneficial but not required.
Must have ability to mentally focus during assigned work activities and have ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Sit and use computer for word processing and other applications for extended periods of time. Attendance at evening meetings and public events may be require.
