Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) in Augusta, ME, is seeking a Payroll & Accounts Receivable Manager to oversee the payroll and AR functions, manage staff, and lead high-impact projects. You’ll balance daily operations with opportunities to positively shape employer reporting and engagement.

The role requires supervisory experience, an accounting or business background, and solid Excel skills, with a focus on accuracy and process improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business or related field with five years of progressive experience.
• Or a post-secondary degree with seven years related work experience.
• Prior supervisory or team leader experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff.
• Proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned Payroll & Accounts Receivable staff including assessing performance and work quality in accordance with established standards, coaching and developing staff, and promoting opportunities for staff training and development.
• Lead the development, planning and execution of high-impact projects and initiatives related to employer reporting and employer engagement.
• Oversee regular reconciliations of employer accounts and assist staff as necessary to ensure reconciliations are completed timely and accurately.
• Work with staff to identify gaps in educational materials and work to close those gaps by developing and maintaining employer training presentations and resources.
• Prepare work papers, reports and analysis in preparation for external and internal audits as required; work closely with the Assistant Director, Employer Reporting to review and respond to findings or recommendations from both internal and external audits.
