Job summary

Richmond Association of REALTORS® / CVR MLS / Partnership for Housing Affordability seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting across a professional trade association, an MLS company, and nonprofit entities in Richmond, VA. This hands-on leadership role focuses on integrity of financial data and scalable internal controls.

Responsibilities include multi-entity close, policy development, audit coordination, and strategic financial analysis for executive leadership and boards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting/financial management.
• Experience budgeting across multiple entities and governance structures.
• Ownership of monthly and annual close processes.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience leading audit preparation from client side.
• Banking, cash management and treasury experience.
• Experience presenting to Boards or Board-level committees (5+ years).
• Supervisory experience and ability to develop finance professionals.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close across entities.
• Lead closing activities and ensure accurate financial statements.
• Maintain GL, COA, reconciliations, journal entries, intercompany work.
• Establish policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Prepare clear reporting for executive leadership and boards.
• Oversee multi-entity accounting across differing structures and tax treatments.
• Coordinate with auditors, CPAs, banks, and tax professionals.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Develop and coach accounting staff; build scalable processes.
