Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop high-fidelity 3DoF and 6DoF models for strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles, and to interface with HWIL test configurations for government sponsors.

You will lead analysis, perform trade studies, contribute to trajectory optimization, and collaborate with cross‑discipline teams to communicate results through reports and briefings.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years in engineering disciplines such as modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, navigation, guidance and control, propulsion or missile test and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with flight vehicle physics and dynamics.
  • Proficient in MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience developing 3DoF and/or 6DoF simulations.
  • Willing to travel occasionally for meetings or tests.
  • Eligible for a U.S. security clearance (Secret, with potential Top Secret).

Responsibilities

  • Develop modeling and simulation tools for trade studies, performance assessments, and conceptual design of strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles.
  • Lead missile test and evaluation activities including pre/post flight evaluations.
  • Lead and contribute to analysis efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross‑discipline teams to advise government and contractor partners on engineering challenges and design trades.
  • Produce reports and presentations to communicate results to team members and government partners.
