Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop high-fidelity models and simulations for strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles. You will work in the Flight Systems Performance group within the Force Projection Sector on trade studies, performance assessments, and HWIL interfaces for government sponsors.

You will lead analysis efforts, produce technical reports, and collaborate across disciplines with government and contractor

Qualifications

  • Have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Have 5 or more years in an engineering discipline such as modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, navigation, guidance and control, propulsion or missile test and evaluation
  • Have experience working with and developing modeling and simulation tools
  • Have familiarity with flight vehicle physics and dynamics
  • Are proficient in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Have experience developing 3 Degree of Freedom (DoF) and/or 6DoF simulations
  • Are willing and able to travel occasionally to attend meetings or tests at other government and contractor sites.
  • Will be comfortable working in closed area facilities.
  • Have an active Secret level security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop modeling and simulation tools to conduct trade studies, performance assessments, and conceptual design studies of strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles
  • Missile test and evaluation activities to include test operations and pre/post flight evaluations
  • Leading and contributing to analysis efforts
  • Collaboration with cross-discipline teams to advise government and contractor partners on engineering challenges and design trades
  • Producing reports and presentations to communicate results to team members and government partners
