Job summary

Durham County Government seeks a strategic leader to guide system-wide library programming and events. You will drive inclusive, community-responsive initiatives across all locations and coordinate staff, evaluation, partnerships, and reporting.

Reporting to the Director of Library Services, you will oversee budgets, partnerships, and grant activity while shaping governance and program standards county-wide.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science and information studies (MLS/MSIS) required.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in library programming or public services leadership.
• Two years of supervisory experience directing work of professional and/or support staff.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license per NC requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee a system-wide programming framework with policies and accessibility.
• Lead long-term programming goals aligned with priorities and community needs.
• Coordinate with managers to align programming with priorities and local interests.
• Supervise the Humanities Coordinator for community partnerships and initiatives.
• Plan and implement annual and seasonal programming, including large events.
• Collaborate with Marketing to create calendars, materials, and timelines.
• Establish and monitor performance measures for program outcomes.
