Job summary

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library seeks an Associate Director of Programs to lead strategy, design, and delivery of public programming across branches and community outreach. The role focuses on growing library usage and impact, with collaboration across divisions and with external partners.

The position drives program development aligned with community goals, reports to the Chief of Strategy and Design, and requires a strong background in library leadership and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of successful and progressive library leadership.
• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Bilingual – Spanish language preferred.
• Seven or more years of progressive library leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a robust portfolio of library programs aligned with the Library's mission and community outcomes.
• Use community and demographic data to guide program priorities and adapt strategies.
• Design programs for diverse populations across all ages, with attention to underserved residents.
• Align programming with community initiatives and priority frameworks identified by Library leadership.
• Incorporate emerging technologies and best practices into program design and delivery.
• Establish program goals, measure progress, and report outcomes to senior leadership and Board.
