Job summary

Joliet Junior College is hiring a Specialist, Library Collection Management to support the library's collection development, cataloging, and resource integration efforts. You will handle tasks from ordering and cataloging to integrating electronic resources within the ILS, ensuring data quality and accessibility for a diverse student body.

The role requires strong communication, teamwork, and technical skills, with a focus on maintaining catalog integrity and supporting the college curriculum.

Qualifications

• LTA certificate or 3 years library technical services experience.
• Knowledge of current cataloging standards and general principles for print/non-print materials and electronic resources.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work with a diverse population in a team environment.
• Extensive PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, E-mail and Internet.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
• Ability to collaborate with college staff and community with cultural competence.
• Commitment to the college values of respect, inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration and quality.

Responsibilities

• Provide exemplary customer service and assist users in person or online.
• Uphold library procedures and interpret them for users.
• Determine user needs, locate materials and assist with technical issues.
• Participate in committees and projects within the library/college.
• Collaborate with staff to prepare and process library materials in all formats.
• Enter data for orders and verify accuracy.
• Order physical and online resources; monitor open orders and communicate status.
• Prepare reports on materials status (received, backordered, cancelled).
• Perform cataloging and maintain bibliographic records.
• Work with automated systems for copy cataloging and resource lifecycle management.
• Develop and manage quality standards for the catalog per policies.
• Maintain holdings in union catalogs and manage deaccessioning as needed.
• Train student employees in handling materials and preservation.
• Assist with inventory and disposition of library items.
• Investigate new tools to improve technical services workflows.
• Assist with library marketing and displays.
• Collect statistics and generate reports.
