Job summary

Joliet Junior College is seeking a Student Employee, Library Assistant to support day-to-day library operations and customer service on campus. The role is part-time and student-driven, with a schedule that accommodates class times.

The position requires enrollment in at least 6 credit hours, a minimum GPA of 2.0, and strong verbal/written communication, interpersonal and service skills. Responsibilities include shelving, helping with displays, holds, and basic processing tasks.

Qualifications

• GPA of 2.0 or above.
• Enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours in the fall/spring semester.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to pay attention to detail and attain accuracy.
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction, while also contributing effectively within a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Shelving and re-shelving books.
• Maintaining the order of the stacks.
• Assisting with library displays.
• Pulling materials for holds.
• Performs campus errands, such as deliveries between departments.
• Light cleaning of shelves and computers.
• Assisting in processing materials for addition to the collection.
• Assisting the Circulation, Reference, and Technical Service departments as assigned.
• Assist in the Print Room.
• Other duties as assigned.
