Job summary

Joliet Junior College Library is seeking a Specialist, Library Collection Management to focus on clerical technical services, copy cataloging, acquisitions, and catalog maintenance. The role requires attention to detail and comfort working with a diverse user base in a fast-paced environment.

The position reports to the Department Chair and Technical Services Librarian, with duties spanning materials processing, integration of electronic resources, and staying current with consortial policies.

Qualifications

• LTA certificate or 3 years library technical services or collection management experience.
• Knowledge of current cataloging standards for print, non-print materials, including electronic resources.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work with diverse population.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate exemplary customer service and assist users in-person and online.
• Uphold and interpret library procedures for users.
• Determine user needs and locate materials; assist with technical equipment.
• Engage in committees and projects supporting the library and college.
• Maintain cooperation with staff to process materials and support curriculum.
• Enter data for purchase requests and verify order accuracy.
• Order physical and online resources; monitor open orders and communicate status.
• Prepare reports on materials status (received, backordered, cancelled).
• Perform preliminary original cataloging and database maintenance.
• Create and maintain bibliographic and holdings records; support automated systems.
• Integrate electronic resources (ebooks, streaming video) into the ILS.
• Develop QA standards for catalog and manage union holdings.
• Prepare and conserve materials; supervise student workers and staff.
• Assist with inventory, retention, and declassification tasks.
• Keep current with tech tools to aid automated workflows.
• Assist with marketing and displays for the library.
• Collect statistics and generate relevant reports.
• Open/close the library as needed.
