Achievement First is seeking an Associate Chief, Special Services to lead services for students with disabilities and multilingual learners across New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. You will guide regional Managing Directors and ML L and SW/C program leads, ensuring 100% compliance while driving real academic growth for scholars.

The role reports to the Chief of Academic Programs and requires deep knowledge of special education law, district partnerships, and coaching leaders.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in education with a track record of student performance gains for students with IEPs
• 7+ years of school or system leadership experience managing people (coaches, deans, principals, or district leaders)
• 5+ years of managing managers, ideally across multiple schools
• Master's or professional degree (M.Ed., MAT, J.D. or similar) with coursework in special education
• Special education certification in NY, CT or RI, and willingness to complete CPI training
• Strong knowledge of special education law, 504 plans, and core processes
• Experience differentiating curriculum including reading intervention and FBA/BIP development, with strong Excel/Tableau data skills
• Commitment to AF's mission, equity, and multilingual learners
• Proven ability to lead with ethics, confidentiality, and effective communication
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a hybrid environment

Responsabilités

• Set the network-wide Special Services vision connecting compliance to strong outcomes
• Lead six direct reports and regional program leads with clear roles and development goals
• Ensure 100% legal compliance and accountability for defined outcomes across a portfolio
• Develop and deliver professional development for school leaders
• Partner with districts and network teams to resolve complex cases and drive equity
• Visit schools regularly to observe programming and support leaders
