Job summary

Temple University is hiring an Assistant Director of Labor and Employee Relations to administer 12 collective bargaining agreements, advise HR and managers, and act as Chief Negotiator when assigned. The role requires negotiating, interpreting contracts, and ensuring compliance with labor laws across university departments.

The position is hybrid, with duties including grievance handling, unemployment hearings, and training on labor matters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of Labor/Employee Relations or directly related experience.
• Demonstrated success in negotiating, administering, and interpreting union contracts.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws.
• Ability to analyze labor relations issues and provide timely advice.
• Ability to manage and counsel managers and employees on policy, procedures and labor agreements.
• Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; excellent communications.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist Chief Negotiator in preparing for union contract negotiations.
• Administer and interpret union contracts, rules of conduct and employee manual.
• Conduct grievance hearings and maintain records of proceedings.
• Assist unemployment hearings and disciplinary investigations as needed.
• Advise on management of employees in compliance with contracts and policies.
• Establish and maintain positive employee/labor relations across the university.
• Meet with union stewards/delegates and mediate disputes as necessary.
• Assist in organizational restructuring and development of Work Rules.
