The University of the Virgin Islands is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to provide comprehensive HR support to academic and administrative departments on St. Thomas.

The role coordinates talent acquisition, onboarding, faculty contracts, and employment procedures while ensuring policy compliance and service excellence. Reporting to the HR and Organizational Development team, you will collaborate with deans, chairs, and managers to implement recruitment strategies and ensure accurate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Higher Education Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional human resources experience.
  • Experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, onboarding, or employment administration.
  • Experience administering personnel transactions and employee records.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate full-cycle recruitment activities for faculty, staff, and temporary positions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop recruitment strategies and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Prepare and post position announcements and recruitment advertisements.
  • Screen applications and coordinate interview processes.
  • Facilitate candidate communications, reference checks, and selection activities.
  • Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background screenings and employment eligibility verification.
  • Maintain recruitment records and applicant tracking data.
  • Generate recruitment reports and hiring metrics.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities for newly hired employees.
  • Facilitate new employee orientation programs and onboarding sessions.
  • Ensure completion of employment documentation and institutional onboarding requirements.
  • Coordinate access to University systems, resources, and services.
  • Serve as a resource to new employees regarding policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Monitor onboarding effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Partner with supervisors to support employee transition and integration into the University.
  • Prepare, process, and track faculty employment contracts, appointment letters, and related personnel actions.
  • Coordinate faculty contract renewals, modifications, and reappointment processes.
  • Maintain records for adjunct, visiting, temporary, and full-time faculty appointments.
  • Administer temporary employment transactions and appointment requests.
  • Monitor temporary employee assignments and contract expiration dates.
  • Ensure employment actions are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, deans, department chairs, and administrative leaders regarding employment actions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, territorial, and University employment regulations and policies.
  • Maintain confidential personnel records and employment data.
  • Assist with audits, accreditation reviews, and compliance reporting.
  • Provide guidance to departments regarding employment procedures and staffing practices.
  • Prepare reports related to recruitment, onboarding, faculty appointments, and temporary employment activities.
  • Recommend process improvements designed to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
  • Support workforce planning, organizational development, and institutional initiatives.
