Job summary

New Communities, Inc. (NCI) is seeking a Director of Human Resources to join the Executive Leadership Team. This role leads a comprehensive HR function for 350+ employees across Maine, developing people strategies that align with our mission and goals.

The ideal candidate will partner with the President & CEO, drive recruitment and retention, foster engagement, ensure regulatory compliance, and leverage HR technology to deliver data-driven insights and a high-performing culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources leadership experience.
• Experience leading an HR team within a complex organization of 300+ employees.
• Thorough knowledge of employment laws, regulations, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and vision for a forward-thinking, high-performing HR function.
• Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and trusted advisor to organizational leaders.
• Develop and implement innovative workforce recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain direct care, supervisory, and administrative staff.
• Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FMLA and PFML, ERISA, workers' compensation, and related employment requirements.
• Oversee employee relations, performance management, investigations, and risk management activities.
• Serve as administrator for NCI's 403(b) retirement plan and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Lead the development, review, and implementation of HR policies, practices, and procedures.
• Leverage technology and data analytics, including Paylocity HRIS, to improve operational efficiency and provide meaningful workforce insights.
• Develop and monitor HR performance metrics and key performance indicators aligned with organizational goals.
• Mentor, develop, and support the Human Resources team to deliver exceptional service throughout the organization.
• Serve as NCI's primary HR contact for regulatory agencies and employment-related compliance matters.
