Job summary

New Communities, Inc. (NCI) seeks a Director of Human Resources to join the Executive Leadership Team in Maine. This strategic, hands-on leader will shape HR strategy, oversee all HR operations, and drive recruitment, retention, regulatory compliance, and data-driven insights with Paylocity HRIS.

The role reports to the President & CEO, guiding a high-performing team and delivering value to 350+ staff across Maine. This is a mission-driven, impact-focused opportunity in a respected nonprofit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources leadership experience.
• Experience leading an HR team within a complex organization of 300+ employees.
• Thorough knowledge of employment laws, regulations, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and vision for a forward-thinking, high-performing HR function.
• Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and trusted advisor to organizational leaders.
• Develop and implement workforce recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain direct care, supervisory, and administrative staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations (ADA, FMLA, PFML, ERISA, workers' comp).
• Oversee employee relations, performance management, investigations, and risk management activities.
• Oversee administrator for 403(b) retirement plan and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
