Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a collaborative HR Professional to provide strategic vision and operational execution of HR services within the Office of the Provost. This role sits on the HR Shared Services leadership team and acts as a trusted advisor to employees, managers and senior leadership to align HR with university goals.

The role requires strong consultation skills, policy development and project leadership in a fast-paced academic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Considerable experience advising and consulting with senior leaders, managers, and employees.
• Proven ability to build partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Broad HR expertise across employment, compensation, performance, and employee relations.
• Ability to influence and guide HR professionals and leadership.
• Ability to translate business objectives into HR strategies.
• Ability to interpret and apply HR policies and regulations.
• Strong facilitation and communication skills.
• Commitment to high professional standards and customer service.
• Experience with Google Suite and HRIS.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance on HR issues and participate in policy development and HR program implementation.
• Advise on complex matters including contracts, performance management, and employee relations.
• Identify organizational needs and plan programs to address them in collaboration with university partners.
• Plan and execute HR process improvements to increase efficiency.
• Facilitate training sessions for assigned service areas.
• Make recommendations on position management, compensation, and hiring/onboarding processes.
• Engage in HR community activities and university initiatives.
• Support special projects aligning with the Provost Office and university service model.
