Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, Public Admin, Psychology, Communications, or related field or relevant experience.
  • Minimum five years in executive search or talent acquisition with executive-level focus in higher ed or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills with hiring managers.
  • Experience creating recruitment ads to attract qualified applicants.

Job description

Join Virginia Commonwealth University as a Senior Talent Strategy Recruiter within VCU HR’s Executive Search Team (EST). This onsite role supports senior and executive-level faculty and staff searches, with a focus on building high-trust relationships, running strategic full-cycle recruiting, and delivering an impartial, high-touch candidate experience.

Along with a $90,000 to $110,000 salary range for an exempt position working 40 hours per week (with a hybrid arrangement), you’ll have access to comprehensive support and development opportunities. Responsibilities
  • Support executive and strategic faculty hiring, and when needed, executive staff positions, maintaining alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Lead senior-level, critical, and niche searches through full-cycle recruitment for executive and high-impact roles.
  • Collaborate with leadership, hiring managers, and HR partners to develop clear search plans and strategic direction.
  • Conduct research and personalized, strategic outreach to engage passive and active candidates whose backgrounds match the role.
  • Validate candidate credentials and screen applicants to deliver informed, role-aligned recommendations to search committees and hiring managers.
  • Lead executive search meetings and participate or lead interview forums with the search committee as needed.
  • Provide outstanding communication and a welcoming, high-touch experience for candidates, leadership, hiring managers, HR partners, and stakeholders.
  • Build strong, authentic connections while providing end-to-end support that improves the search experience from start to finish.
  • Draft high-quality search communications, including correspondence, memos, announcements, and related materials.
  • Draft and edit position profiles and prospectuses as needed.
  • Participate in professional and industry events to grow your network and represent VCU.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Psychology, Communications, or a related field, or relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum five years of executive search or talent acquisition experience with executive-level recruiting focus in higher education, academic medical systems, or similarly complex environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to objective hiring practices and full-cycle senior-level recruitment, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, resume evaluation, and candidate mapping.
  • Experience creating and refining recruitment advertisements to attract highly qualified applicants.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-management skills, including effective partnership with hiring managers.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments while sustaining long-term candidate relationships through the search lifecycle.
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information, with strong time management and follow-through.
  • Collaborative team orientation with the ability to work independently and deliver service-focused outcomes.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems, and skill with Google Docs and Microsoft Office to produce presentations and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, professional, and civil environment for faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, Communications, or a related field.
  • Seven years of executive search or talent acquisition experience with executive-level recruiting focus in higher education, academic medical systems, or similarly complex environments.
  • Expertise in advanced recruiting methodologies.
  • Relevant certifications in Human Resources (for example, PHR or SHRM-CP) and/or executive search (for example, AESC, AIRS).
