Job summary

Brooksource is seeking a Business Analyst to support the GIS team by gathering business needs, documenting requirements, and improving workflows. The role interfaces with business users, managers, and technical staff to translate problems into practical technology solutions. Prior GIS experience is a plus but not required.

You will help define project scope, coordinate meetings, and assist with testing, training material, and change management to ensure solutions meet business value.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Analyst, or similar role.
• Strong ability to gather, analyze, organize, and document business and technical requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience documenting workflows, use cases, user stories, or functional specifications.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, track details, and follow work through completion.
• Proficiency with common office, collaboration, and documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Visio, Planner, Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Meet with business users, program areas, technical staff, and leadership to understand needs, issues, and desired outcomes.
• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, workflows, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
• Translate business needs into clear documentation that can be used by GIS developers, analysts, application support staff, database teams, and project stakeholders.
• Assist with evaluating current business processes and recommending improvements.
• Support GIS application customization, data-driven workflows, reporting needs, and system enhancement requests.
• Help define project scope, objectives, deliverables, risks, assumptions, constraints, and success measures.
• Coordinate project meetings, document decisions, track action items, and follow up with stakeholders.
• Assist with testing activities, including test planning, user acceptance testing, issue tracking, and validation of delivered functionality.
• Support change management, user communication, training documentation, and implementation planning.
• Work with technical staff to ensure requirements are understood, feasible, prioritized, and aligned with business value.
• Maintain organized documentation for projects, requests, workflows, decisions, and system changes.
