Job summary

Brooksource is seeking a Business Analyst to support the GIS team by gathering business needs, documenting requirements, and improving workflows. Responsibilities

  • Meet with business users, program areas, technical staff, and leadership to understand needs, issues, and desired outcomes.
  • Gather, analyze, and document business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, workflows, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Translate business needs into clear documentation that can be used by GIS developers, analysts, application support staff, database teams, and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with evaluating current business processes and recommending improvements.
  • Support GIS application customization, data-driven workflows, reporting needs, and system enhancement requests.

  • Coordinate project meetings, document decisions, track action items, and follow up with stakeholders.

  • Work with technical staff to ensure requirements are understood, feasible, prioritized, and aligned with business value.
  • Maintain organized documentation for projects, requests, workflows, decisions, and system changes.

Job description

The Business Analyst will support the GIS team by gathering business needs, documenting requirements, improving workflows, coordinating project activities, and helping translate business problems into practical technology solutions. This role does not require prior GIS experience, but experience working with GIS, spatial data, mapping applications, or Esri technologies is a plus.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with technical teams, business users, managers, and project stakeholders. They should be able to ask strong questions, document clear requirements, identify process gaps, and help move work from concept through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Analyst, or similar role.
  • Experience supporting GIS, mapping, asset management, transportation, engineering, planning, environmental, or public-sector technology projects.
  • Familiarity with Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, Dashboards, or related platforms.
  • Experience working with spatial data, databases, reports, dashboards, web applications, or enterprise systems.
  • Project management experience, including scope tracking, schedule coordination, risk management, stakeholder communication, and project status reporting.
  • Experience serving as a project manager, project coordinator, scrum master, product owner, or team lead is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile, hybrid, or traditional project delivery methods.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, software enhancements, or application modernization efforts.
  • Experience creating training materials, user guides, standard operating procedures, or business process documentation.
