Job summary

Brooksource is seeking a Geospatial Data Scientist to transform complex spatial data into actionable insights, spanning data ingestion through modeling and visualization. You’ll work remotely, collaborating with engineering and product teams to embed spatial intelligence into our platform.

The role emphasizes building spatial data models, applying ML to spatial problems, and communicating findings to diverse stakeholders in an async environment.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in data science or GIS.
• Proficiency in Python for geospatial analysis and modeling.
• Strong PostgreSQL / PostGIS experience.
• Familiarity with GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF, WKT, WKB formats.
• Experience with GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS.
• Understanding CRS and spatial indexing.
• Experience applying ML to spatial problems.
• Ability to communicate in a fully remote, async environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute geospatial analyses to support decisions.
• Build and maintain spatial data models and pipelines.
• Query geospatial datasets with PostgreSQL + PostGIS.
• Work with GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF, WKT/WKB formats.
• Develop ML models with spatial components (clustering, classification, interpolation).
• Create maps, dashboards, and visualizations for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate geospatial features in production.
• Evaluate geospatial data quality, coverage, and accuracy.
• Apply GIS tools for analysis and visualization.
• Communicate insights clearly in a remote async environment.
• Maintain familiarity with geospatial standards and CRS.
• Contribute to spatial data infrastructure and cloud workflows.
