Job summary

NC State University’s CALS Business Office seeks a Financial Operations Supervisor to lead a centralized financial operations team and ensure accurate, compliant accounting across multiple funding sources.

The role reports to the Director of Business Services, champions internal controls, mitigates risk, and guides staff in applying complex federal, state, and receipt-funded requirements to support CALS research and extension programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field with 12 accounting credits and 3 years professional accounting experience, 1 being supervisory.
• Direct staff performance through coaching, workload planning, prioritization, and coordination.
• Apply accounting principles, internal controls, and regulatory requirements across multiple funding sources.
• Oversee reconciliations and ensure data integrity; monitor compliance.
• Interpret policies/regulations and translate into actionable guidance for departments and leadership.
• Clearly communicate financial policies and compliance requirements to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management to the financial operations team.
• Optimize workloads across AP, AR, Travel, and P-Card while maintaining compliance.
• Design onboarding programs to teach core accounting principles and funding requirements.
• Implement standardized workflows to reduce bottlenecks and improve accuracy.
• Review and approve complex transactions across federal/state/receipt-funded funds.
