Job summary

Great Basin College in Elko, NV, seeks an experienced Controller to lead our financial operations and advise senior leadership. You will oversee accounting, disbursements, student accounts, budgeting, grants, travel, and related services from the VPFO’s office.

The role requires a CPA and several years of finance leadership, with remote work allowed within Nevada and on-campus presence about one week per month. Salary ranges reflect 12-month administrative faculty status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
• Five years of progressive financial management experience.
• Two years in higher education, government, or nonprofit accounting is desirable.
• MBA or related field considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and daily management for all financial operations of the College, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with policies.
• Supervise and mentor business office staff across accounting, grants, budgeting, travel, accounts payable/receivable, and student financial services.
• Prepare and oversee annual financial statements and GAAP-compliant documentation.
• Manage year-end close processes and coordinate with external auditors.
• Oversee internal controls, investment management, cash handling, and financial reporting.
