Job summary

New River Community and Technical College seeks a Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance/CFO, the role ensures GAAP/GASB adherence, strong internal controls, and accurate financial statements for decision-making and stewardship.

The Controller will oversee audits, grants, and cash management, while guiding staff and coordinating with college leadership on budgeting and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and NACUBO guidance and related regulations.
• Ability to analyze and interpret fiscal data, apply laws and standards.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting systems.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial software.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee the college's accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Maintain integrity of general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Lead external audits and respond to audit inquiries.
• Oversee grants, restricted funds, and capital assets accounting.
• Collaborate with CFO on budgeting and forecasting.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff.
• Identify process improvements in financial systems and ERP.
