Job summary

Nelson Wood Shims in Minnesota seeks a Controller to oversee key accounting functions, manage the month-end close, analyze financial results, and strengthen internal controls. Working with the CFO and leadership, you will optimize the AP/AR processes and support budgeting and forecasting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• Seven+ years progressive accounting experience including 2+ years as Controller.
• Proven experience owning month-end and year-end close processes.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience leading process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Analyze financial results, trends, and variances.
• Analyze product costs and margins across products and customers.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, capital investment analysis, and strategic initiatives.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, dashboards, and KPIs.
• Turn monthly results into actionable insights for leadership.
• Assist with annual financial review and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate annual insurance renewal process.
• Develop and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure GAAP compliance.
