Job summary

Gusto is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to lead our Employee Relations team, partnering with Legal and HR Business Partners on high‑risk investigations and performance cases.

You will translate policies into consistent practice during rapid scaling, coach leaders through difficult conversations, and drive process improvements with data and AI tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field; advanced degree or JD is a plus.
• 7–10+ years of progressive HR or Employee Relations experience, including ER casework.
• Deep knowledge of employment law and experience conducting investigations.
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills with stakeholder influence.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and coach a team of Employee Relations Partners, setting quality standards and processes.
• Lead or oversee complex, high‑risk workplace investigations with airtight documentation.
• Own performance‑management casework end‑to‑end, coaching managers through PIPs and exits.
• Translate codes of conduct into consistent, fair practice across departments.
• Enable managers on performance processes and difficult conversations.
• Track ER metrics to surface opportunities and mitigate risk.
• Provide strategic guidance to senior leaders on complex personnel decisions.
