Job summary

ST MARYS COUNTY GOVERNMENT seeks an Emergency Planner to lead planning for emergency response, recovery, mitigation, and prevention across the county and regional partners. Responsibilities include updating preparedness plans and coordinating with agencies such as FEMA and MEMA, plus directing public education on emergency readiness.

The role requires expert knowledge of emergency management principles, strong decision-making, and ability to operate with limited direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public safety or equivalent preferred.
• Completion of NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 within one year of employment.
• Completion of the Emergency Management Institute’s PDS Independent Study Program within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and manages department, county-wide and regional emergency plans.
• Develops, writes, and maintains the County's Radiological Emergency Plan in coordination with FEMA and others.
• Reviews and recommends revisions to county ordinances regarding plans.
• Develops and maintains a County Disaster Recovery Plan and RSFs with FEMA and others.
• Tests plans and coordinates agency improvements for implementation.
• Liaises with federal, state, local and volunteer agencies involved in emergency planning.
