Job summary

Mercy St. Louis Hospital is seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership oversight for surgical operations within our Level I Trauma and Burn Center.

This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered surgical services through collaborative leadership, sound operational management, and fiscal responsibility. The Executive Director partners closely with physician leaders, caregivers, and hospital leadership to

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or business required.
• Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in the Perioperative space.
• Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with caregivers, physicians, and leadership.
• Collaborate with management teams to achieve departmental goals and organizational priorities.
• Serve as a resource for ancillary areas utilizing comparable services, equipment, or procedures.
• Maintain awareness of professional standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices at local, state, and national levels.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards and workflows.
• Establish and oversee inventory management systems for surgical supplies and instrumentation.
• Lead human resource functions including interviewing, hiring, and caregiver development.
• Meet with vendors to evaluate product lines, recommend alternatives, and support cost-containment initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons and surgical teams to ensure smooth transitions related to products and procedures.
• Analyze financial and operational reports to support informed business decisions and cost-benefit evaluations.
