Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions in Indianapolis seeks a highly driven Controller to oversee accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting. This role champions internal controls and supports operational decision-making to drive financial discipline.

Responsibilities include leading AP/GL, month-end closes, GAAP compliance, detailed financial analysis, and collaboration with operations to monitor costs and profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
• Experience in transportation, logistics, distribution or a similar operational industry preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Hands-on, detail-oriented leader.
• Strong business acumen with an operational mindset.
• High level of integrity and accountability.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.
• Proactive problem-solver focused on continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and develop the accounts payable and GL team, establishing clear expectations and accountability.
• Ensure strong cross-functional relationships with other departments.
• Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare journal entries and balance sheet schedules.
• Manage the month‑end and year‑end close process ensuring proper cut-offs, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Perform detailed financial analysis and create related reports, identify trends and variances, and communicate key insights to leadership.
• Oversee vendor payments, credit card transactions, contractor payments, and prepaid balances.
• Partner with operations to monitor and control costs across the business.
• Support operational initiatives through financial analysis and reporting.
• Drive accountability around spending and financial performance.
• Develop and maintain accurate cost tracking, including revenue, cost, and profit per mile.
• Analyze key operational metrics and margins across business segments.
• Identify cost drivers and recommend improvements to enhance profitability.
• Develop, implement, and monitor internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
• Oversee audit processes and maintain relationships with external auditors and CPA firm.
• Develop and monitor KPIs aligned with company performance goals.
