Job summary

The Whitaker Group is seeking a Controller in Matthews, NC to lead accounting operations, ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and guide budgeting and forecasting activities. You will manage GL, payroll, AP/AR, and month-end close while partnering with executives to drive financial strategy.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with ERP systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end and year-end close processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all daily accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate and lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with department heads and senior management.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
• Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial data integrity.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff to enhance team performance and professional growth.
• Collaborate with external auditors during audits and implement audit recommendations to improve financial processes.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
