Job summary

SBI Partners in Gary, IN is seeking a Controller to own the accounting function and serve as a strategic partner to leadership on operational and financial improvement. This role focuses on bringing structure, visibility, and efficiency to a growing construction logistics business.

You will lead day-to-day accounting, oversee billing and payables, provide FP&A support, and help build scalable processes and a team as the company expands.

Qualifications

• Experience owning or leading an accounting function.
• Strong hands-on accounting foundation.
• Ability to provide financial analysis and actionable business insights.
• Experience improving processes and creating structure.
• Comfortable partnering closely with an operations-driven workforce.
• Transportation, trucking, or logistics experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to operate independently and build a team as needed.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
• Oversee core accounting activities, including billing and accounts payable.
• Provide FP&A support for business and operational decisions.
• Establish and improve financial and operational processes.
• Partner with leadership to identify efficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop reporting and financial visibility to support continued growth.
• Evaluate and build out the accounting team as needed.
• Create scalable processes and infrastructure as the organization expands.
