Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a Purchasing Agent to drive quoting, procurement, and delivery of products and services through qualified suppliers and subcontractors. You will determine best value considering cost, quality, and delivery within company policies.

You will support bid prep, coordinate with PMs, field staff, and accounting, and manage POs and timely deliveries while focusing on continuous improvement and strong vendor relationships.

Qualifications

• AA degree preferred or equivalent experience
• 3+ years in construction procurement preferred
• Strong knowledge of purchasing practices and systems
• Excellent negotiation and timely procurement skills
• Strong time management with multiple projects
• Analytical, detail-oriented, quality-focused
• Product knowledge of plumbing/mechanical pipe, valves, fittings
• Proficient with ERP and data tools (COINS preferred)
• Ability to work in a continuous improvement environment
• Team-oriented collaboration with suppliers, customers, PMs, field staff, and accounting
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

• Fulfills material requisitions and procures at competitive price and ensures delivery on time
• Collaborates with staff and management to streamline processes and resolve supplier issues
• Assists in bid document prep, bidder lists, and award recommendations
• Coordinates with project managers to procure goods and services
• Manages bulk deliveries to meet deadlines
• Prepares and tracks purchase orders and follow-ups on past-due orders
