Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Purchasing Agent to execute quoting, procurement and delivery of products and services from qualified suppliers within Company policies. You will determine best value considering cost, quality, delivery and national supply agreements.

The role collaborates with field staff, project management and accounting to ensure timely delivery, resolve invoice issues and improve procurement processes.

Qualifications

• 2 year AA degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry preferred.
• Strong knowledge of purchasing practices, systems, and practices.
• Good ability to negotiate and procure items in a timely manner.
• Excellent time management with multiple projects.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, detail oriented.
• Strong product knowledge of pipe, valves, and fittings for Plumbing / mechanical systems.
• Experience with ERP software (COINS preferred).
• Ability to work in a continuous improvement environment.
• Ability to collaborate with suppliers, project management, field staff and accounting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills material requisitions from field staff and fabrication shop.
• Procures and ensures product is ordered at a competitive price and delivered on time.
• Partners with staff and management to eliminate waste and streamline systems.
• Assists with bid documents, bidders lists, and award recommendations.
• Coordinates with project managers to procure goods and services.
• Coordinates bulk deliveries to meet deadlines.
• Prepares and manages purchase orders and follows up on past-due orders.
