Job summary

We Build Progress seeks a Communications Director to lead strategy and external voice for two progressive organizations, We Build Progress and PCAF. You will guide digital content, executive messaging, and multi‑channel campaigns, advancing policy priorities and partnerships while aligning brands across teams.

You will supervise staff, engage reporters, and work closely with leadership to shape communications for major initiatives, events, and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of progressively responsible communications experience, including organization‑wide strategy and advising senior executives.
• Experience leading staff and external partners across multiple communications functions.
• Excellent strategic judgment, political acumen, and ability to translate policy issues into compelling content.
• Strong writing/editing skills across formats and channels.
• Experience with media relations, crisis communications, and digital channels.
• Ability to work with fundraising teams on donor and foundation communications.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated communications strategy, editorial calendar, and channel strategy for two organizations.
• Maintain distinct brands for We Build Progress and PCAF while identifying alignment opportunities.
• Oversee external messaging, voice, and storytelling across channels.
• Develop plans for initiatives, campaigns, and policy priorities; manage assets and events.
• Grow audiences via email, social media, events, and other channels; donor communications.
• Supervise staff, vendors, and contracts; manage workflows and budgets.
