Job summary

We Build Progress, a national nonprofit with a Washington, DC base, seeks a Communications Director to lead strategy, branding, and audience engagement for both We Build Progress and PCAF. The role oversees digital content, executive communications, media outreach, and cross‑functional collaboration with program and development teams to shape the external voice and mitigate reputational risk.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of progressive communications leadership, including strategy development.
• Experience advising senior executives and managing multiple communications functions.
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling across channels.
• Track record leading media relations and external partnerships.
• Knowledge of policymaking and legislative processes to translate into clear messages.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee an integrated communications strategy, editorial calendar, and channel plan.
• Maintain distinct voices for We Build Progress and PCAF while identifying alignment opportunities.
• Lead external messaging, branding, and audience engagement across channels.
• Create communications plans for initiatives, campaigns, and policy priorities.
• Oversee content quality and accessibility for written, visual, and multimedia pieces.
• Supervise the Digital & Content Communications Specialist and guide cross‑functional teams.
• Provide regular performance reporting on communications outcomes.
