Job summary

We Build Progress seeks a Communications Director to lead communications and audience engagement for both We Build Progress and PCAF. This role shapes external voice, manages digital channels, branding, messaging, and media relations across two organizations.

The Director will partner with leadership and program staff to plan initiatives, publications, and events, supervise staff, manage vendors, and advance policy priorities while upholding equity in communications.

Qualifications

• At least eight years of progressively responsible communications experience, including leading organization-wide strategy and advising senior executives.
• Experience developing integrated communications strategies that strengthen brand visibility and audience engagement.
• Experience serving as senior adviser on sensitive issues, rapid‑response needs, and high‑profile opportunities.
• Excellent strategic judgment, political acumen, and ability to translate policy into compelling communications.
• Experience overseeing digital strategies and channels including email, websites, and social media.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee an integrated communications strategy, editorial calendar, channel strategy, and cross-functional processes.
• Maintain distinct voices and identities for two organizations while aligning storytelling where appropriate.
• Lead external messaging and brand strategy across channels.
• Create communications plans for major initiatives, campaigns, and policy priorities.
• Expand reach of assets such as newsletters, briefings, publications, toolkits, events, and other channels.
• Incorporate communications considerations into program design and partnerships.
• Provide oversight for high‑quality content and ensure accessibility and alignment with priorities.
• Supervise staff and manage communications vendors and projects.
• Establish metrics and report on performance to leadership.
