Job summary

Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) is seeking a Communications Director to lead our messaging team and shape national policy narratives. This remote role reports to the VP of Communications and requires translating complex policy into compelling language that moves lawmakers and voters.

You'll manage a six-person team, develop strategic messaging, oversee content like op-eds and donor letters, and guide media outreach.

Qualifications

• At least seven years in communications, messaging, or political writing, including managing a team.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Self-starter who can master FGA's issues and distill big ideas into clear, digestible language.
• Politically savvy and comfortable working with lawmakers.
• Comfortable using AI tools and teaching the team what works.
• Willing to travel for quarterly team meetings and events.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Messaging Team: hire, develop, and manage staff and contractors.
• Drive Message Development: turn research into messaging for staff and allies.
• Shape Messaging Strategy: craft narrative arc across FGA issues.
• Own the Content Pipeline: manage quality and timeliness of all outputs.
• Guide Media Outreach: align media strategy with priorities and pitch bold ideas.
• Craft Speeches and Public Remarks: write speeches and serve as a spokesperson when needed.
