Job summary

The Athletic, based in New York City, seeks a Manager, Commercial Planning to lead the most complex and high-value commercial initiatives. This hybrid role requires 3 days in the NYC office and reports to the VP of Advertising Finance.

You will build rigorous financial models and own end-to-end deal performance, guiding strategies and investments for licensing and advertising, among others. With 5+ years in relevant finance roles, you’ll translate data into strategic narratives for leadership,

Qualifications

5+ years in corporate development, strategic finance, consulting or investment banking.
Analytically rigorous with experience evaluating high-stakes deals.
Deep understanding of negotiation leverage and financial outcomes.
MBA or BS in Finance/Economics preferred.

Responsibilities

Translate financial data into visual narratives for leadership discussions.
Build financial models to value complex deals and initiatives across licensing and advertising, plus other revenue streams.
Aid in deal construction and term sheet negotiations with Legal and Accounting.
Own the post-close performance, tracking actuals vs benchmarks and FP&A oversight.
Integrate live deal performance into rolling forecasts and explain variances to leadership.
