Job summary

NC State University's Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences is seeking an Accountant to manage a diverse portfolio of funds, including state appropriations, discretionary funds, grants, gifts, and service centers, ensuring fiscal integrity and close partnership with the CVM Business Office.

The role emphasizes budget operations, internal controls, and collaborative problem solving for departmental leadership and staff. The position follows a standard 8am-5pm schedule within the department.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of accounting and budgetary principles, practices, and procedures, including GAAP.
• Proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials, WRS, and Excel.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and reporting abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile accounts, prepare annual financial reports for faculty, manage journal vouchers/IDTs, direct year-end closeouts, and oversee payroll salary distributions.
• Review and approve marketplace requisitions, vouchers, vendor registrations (PaymentWorks), and P-card reconciliations to ensure policy compliance and timely vendor payments.
• Monitor grant expenditures and fund allocations, prevent deficits, assist with grant closeouts, process university contracts, and calculate annual salary releases.
• Guide faculty and staff through university travel processes, reviewing and approving travel authorizations and reimbursements.
