Job summary

Meijer is seeking a merchandising professional to partner with Buyers on assortment, pricing, promotion, planograms and marketing for key categories. You will manage vendor relationships and drive category strategy to meet customer expectations and financial targets.

The role requires store visits, market trend analysis, and collaboration with Merchandising Planning to develop plans and forecasts. A strong background in retail, planning, and negotiations is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 2+ years of experience in retail preferred.
• Buying, inventory or analysis experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the market, retail business and customers.
• Knowledge of business drivers (pricing, promotion, assortment).
• Strong planning skills required.
• Strong negotiation skills preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Drive the strategic direction of categories to align with division goals.
• Visit stores regularly to understand assortments, pricing and presentation.
• Use market information to anticipate trends and drive product selection.
• Collaborate on financial planning with Buyers and Merchandise Planning.
• Develop overall direction and performance of merchandising categories.
• Lead category reviews and open-to-buy forecasts.
• Approve planograms and markdown strategies.
• Negotiate with vendors for markdown support or returns.
• Determine pricing strategy to maintain Meijer's pricing integrity and margins.
• Review pricing analytics to optimize pricing.
• Assist with inventory planning to support promotions.
• Evaluate marketing effectiveness for categories.
