Job summary

Meijer Inc. seeks an experienced General Merchandise Manager to lead day-to-day store operations, staff development and sales strategies. You will direct staffing, hiring and training, mentor team members and manage P&L while maintaining store standards and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities include optimizing product presentation, driving sales, ensuring safety, and coordinating with across-store teams to meet goals. Strong leadership and financial analysis skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent required.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational assignments in other store areas such as meat, bakery, produce and deli; customer service and product flow experience helpful.
• Ability to communicate clearly and resolve conflicts by addressing root causes.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information to make informed decisions.
• Proven ability to mentor team members and lead safety practices.
• Successful completion of required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and supervises team members in day-to-day store operations.
• Mentors and coaches the team to meet service and sales goals while upholding Meijer standards.
• Staffing, selection and hiring to meet staffing needs.
• Promotes career development and succession planning for team members.
• Documents disciplinary actions and makes recommendations on discharge.
• Responsible for P&L, achieving sales and controlling shrink for the department.
• Models fast, friendly customer service and Meijer Friendly Initiative.
• Ensures team is trained and compliant with required training.
