Job summary

Ardaman & Associates, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to partner with the Controller, leading day-to-day accounting and reporting functions in a large geotechnical engineering and materials testing firm.

The role supervises GL, AP, and AR staff, manages month-end close, payroll, and audits, and strengthens internal controls while guiding budgeting and forecasts for informed management decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible, hands-on accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax compliance, and banking operations.
• Proven experience preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts and supporting audits.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas) and strong comfort with accounting/ERP systems (experience with Oracle or comparable ERP modules a plus).
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills; able to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong managerial skills and ability to drive process improvements and cross-functional collaboration.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly and year-end close activities with reconciliations and journal entries.
• Supervise accounting staff (GL, AP, AR) including hiring and training.
• Oversee AP operations including invoices, purchase orders, petty cash, and expense reports with controls.
• Oversee AR processes including billing, cash application, collections and aging management.
• Manage payroll close activities and coordinate with payroll providers.
• Coordinate and support external and internal audits and prepare schedules for auditors.
• Maintain, document, and improve accounting policies and internal control frameworks.
• Prepare, review and present financial analyses, forecasts and budget inputs; support annual budgeting and re-forecasting.
• Provide senior management with requested financial information, analysis and recommendations.
• Liaise with publicly traded parent company on reporting, consolidation and compliance as needed.
• Promote a professional, collaborative work environment and ensure adherence to policies and safety standards.
