Job summary

City of Statesville (NC) is seeking a Skilled Laborer - Stormwater to support the Engineering Department / Stormwater Division. The role involves heavy manual work on stormwater infrastructure, with responsibilities ranging from drainage maintenance to operating equipment like backhoes and skid steers.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, with a Monday–Friday schedule. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, be 18+, and have at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• One year of experience in maintenance, repair, and/or construction work.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of heavy manual work in stormwater infrastructure repair, maintenance, and construction.
• Assists in storm drainage system maintenance, cleaning, and construction.
• Acts as lead worker on projects.
• Operates a pickup truck, backhoe, skid steer, and chain saw.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs departmental equipment.
• Assists supervisors in planning and organizing work.
• Assists supervisors in training unskilled laborers.
• Interacts with the public in a professional manner.
• Set-up work zones.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
