Job summary

The City of Tyler seeks a reliable Equipment Operator to support stormwater maintenance and the operation of light and heavy vehicles on public works projects. You will perform on-site maintenance, service equipment, and respond to emergencies while following safety procedures.

Key duties include operating department Equipment, performing maintenance, clearing drains, assisting mechanics, and maintaining records of spraying areas per EPA rules. A Texas CDL-B is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; may substitute education with relevant experience.
  • Valid Texas Class B CDL with clean driving record.
  • Experience operating stormwater and construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills for records and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Stormwater Department equipment and vehicles to haul materials and perform maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and assist mechanics as needed.
  • Clear creeks/drains, patch and repair stormwater infrastructure, and assist with debris removal.
  • Maintain safe work zones, direct traffic, and keep the worksite clean and organized.
  • Document spraying areas and chemical use in accordance with EPA regulations.
