Job summary

The City of Asheville is actively seeking a full-time Plans Reviewer in the Public Works Department. This role conducts professional site engineering work, reviews land development plans, assesses stormwater management, and oversees related permit processes to support compliant growth.

Interfacing with developers, officials, and the public, the reviewer ensures adherence to city, state, and federal standards, coordinates with team members, and maintains detailed project records throughout the

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Construction Technology, Drafting, or related field plus 1 year drafting/related experience (or equivalent).
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.
• Strong research, data analysis, and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Review land development plans for conformance with City standards and engineering principles.
• Approve or deny grading, erosion control, floodplain, and stormwater permits as appropriate.
• Coordinate with staff and external parties on plan reviews and permit status.
• Explain ordinances and engineering standards to developers, contractors, and the public.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for assigned projects.
• Provide high levels of customer service for land-disturbance and stormwater compliance.
