Job summary

City of Durham seeks a Stormwater Development Review Engineer to ensure compliance with stormwater regulations through independent review of development plans. Requires hydrology knowledge, ArcGIS, and strong communication in a fast-paced public sector team.

Role includes project management, design reviews, field inspections, and coordination with stakeholders. Eligible for a one-time $5,000 sign-on bonus after six months, with a competitive salary and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction project management, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Five years of related engineering and/or project management experience.
• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Performs project management duties: scope development, contracts, schedules, budgets, and meetings; facilitates hiring of contractors and conducts site visits.
• Prepares/reviews technical documents: reports, land development applications, plans, contracts, and correspondence; ensures compliance with regulations.
• Performs engineering design work or provides support for transportation facilities; conducts studies and manages data in engineering systems.
• Coordinates with internal/external stakeholders and attends meetings to provide technical expertise; conducts outreach and trains staff on regulations.
• Manages special projects; leads staff, coordinates operations, and develops policies; ensures compliance with procedures.
• May supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, and participate in hiring and discipline procedures.
• Provides professional civil engineering support in planning, surveying, design, review, contracting, inspection, field supervision, and maintenance of municipal projects.
• Supports supervising engineers and responds to questions; prepares technical correspondence.
• Completes special projects by preparing presentations, attending seminars, and updating standards.
